One Day Miracle Diet

Jeudi 31 janvier 2008

One Day Miracle Diet as dieticians put it is a suitable diet program for gourmet buffs. This cholesterol lowering diet plan is quite simple you diet for a day and eat full the next day and continue this routine until you feel that you have lost enough weight. It is also called the 24 hour Hollywood Miracle Diet.
During the dieting day, refrain from eating any other food than vanilla (every two hours) or chocolate diet wafers and raw fruits. Also, make it a point to drink lots of water (ideally 8 glasses of water or above). It is also advisable to follow a light exercise routine for better results. Walking short distances will serve the purpose.
The biggest advantage with one day cholesterol lowering diet programs is that the person undergoing dieting will not suffer any muscle loss. This is partially because of the high protein and low calorie content of the wafers, and partially due to the fact that the dieting person actually in fact is not completely severed from his/her eating habits. He/she can have any food he/she wants the every next day.
On the other hand, the disadvantage with the cholesterol lowering diet program is that it does not contribute towards improving one s eating habits. That is, as it does not suggest an improved diet, the chances of the person regaining the weight due to normal eating after stopping the diet program are high. Also, nutritional deficiency can happen sometimes depending on the physical aspects of the person concerned.
To conclude, cholesterol lowering diet programs of this sort can bring about quick results. Further, as the person is not restricted from his normal diet for more than 24 hours, people will be more inclined to try out this diet program. But the con is that perhaps people may resort to eating more after the one-day deprival. Hence one s control over his/her eating impulse is critical for ensuring complete success.
Tail Piece some dieticians tout this cholesterol lowering diet program to be more effective than the traditional tuna and egg diet.

Benefits of Garlic

Mercredi 30 janvier 2008

Benefits of Garlic!! A more detailed account of what garlic does for various organs in the human body: If garlic had been created in the laboratory instead of by nature, it would probably be a high-priced prescription drug.
A Common Saying everyone knows..That s just how good it really is…
Garlic is one of the oldest known medicinal plants, and it s been credited with fighting heart disease, lowering blood pressure and helping to fight off colds.
In fact, garlic has been used medicinally for at least 3,000 years, but until relatively recently its benefits were considered little more than folklore. According to a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association (Nov. 28, 1990;264:2614), the therapeutic roles of garlic have been described in more than 1,000 scientific studies.Cooking with garlic
Most of the modern research on garlic has concentrated on its ability to lower cholesterol and blood pressure as well as offering protection against strokes and heart disease.
The following is a more detailed account of what garlic does for various organs in the human body:
1. Protection of the liver from toxic substances: Garlic activates the cells of the liver and thereby protects the liver from toxic substances; it also rejuvenates a tired liver and promotes its normal functioning.
2. Improvement of blood circulation: When allicin is heated in the process of cooking the garlic, a substance called ?ajoene” is formed. This substance has a suppressive effect on thrombi and blood cholesterol, so it is effective for the treatment of atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
3. Regulation of stomach function: Allicin promotes the secretion of gastric juices by stimulating the mucous membranes of the stomach; furthermore, it combines with proteins which can reduce excessive activity of the stomach. In addition, allicin reglates the functioning of the stomach by activating the large intestine and thus cure both constipation and diarrhea.
4. Promotion of insulin secretion: Allicin combines with vitamin B1 (thiamine) to activate the function of the pancreas and thus promote insulin secretion. As a result, garlic is effective in the prevention or the cure of diabetes that is caused by a lack of insulin or by the defective functioning of the pancreas.
5. Normalization of blood circulation: Because it stimulates the brain nerves and controls the workings of the heart at a constant level, garlic stabilizes blood pressure. It is also capable of dissolving cholesterol and fatty substances inside blood vessels and therefore refreshing cells and the blood inside the body.
Today, there is worldwide scientific evidence to support the many health benefits that can be derived from the daily consumption of garlic.
* Extensive tests on humans have concluded that a regular intake of garlic can:
* Lower total cholesterol (but raise the good-type HDL cholesterol)
* Produce more “natural killer” cells in the blood that will tackle infections and tumours
* Lower blood pressure
* Reduce the risk of blood clots (that are responsible for most heart attacks and strokes)
* Destroy infection causing viruses and bacteria
Garlic is classified as both an herb and a vegetable. It can be found in products ranging from ice cream to dry rubs; the versatility of this herb is seemingly endless.

Tips for cooking with garlic:
1. Before cooking, remove the exterior skin of the clove. There are many ways to do this: strike the bulb with the broad side of a kitchen knife, use a rubber garlic rolling tube, soak the garlic in lukewarm water for 30 minutes or dip the cloves into boiling water for 30 seconds.
2. After skinning the garlic, select a cooking method that will result in the appropriate flavor. It can be saut ed to create a nutty, savory taste; poached to create a mild flavor; oven-roasted to bring out the nutty flavor with a caramelized quality; fried to create a crisp exterior; or grilled to create a soft, smoky flavor.
3. Garlic is very sensitive to heat and will burn easily, especially when saut ing. Expose the garlic to heat just until the oil sizzles and then remove it. When cooking garlic with onions, start the onions first. They will take longer to cook.
Benefits of Garlic: Cancer Prevention
Indeed, the first scientific report to study garlic and cancer was performed in the 1950s. Scientists injected allicin, an active ingredient from garlic, into mice suffering from cancer. Mice receiving the injection survived more than 6 months whereas those which did not receive the injection only survived 2 months.

Snoring Treatment On The Rise

Mercredi 30 janvier 2008

There are millions of people who snore and continue to go untreated every day. There are some who have been snoring for years and have never even mentioned it to their doctors. Did you know that snoring can be an indicator of other underlying medical conditions? Did you know that those who live alone may be snoring or maybe even have sleep apnea and not even know they snore? Men, women and children and even pets snore every night. Some people snore so bad that all they want to do is find a snoring treatment that will work for them.
Find A Cure That Works
Although there is no miracle cure for all snoring there is a snoring treatment that may help you. There are more inexpensive treatments such as nose strips that are also used my athletes to improve the air flow for better performance. These may help keep your nasal passages open at night for better air flow. There are gel strips that can be use on the roof of your mouth and work similar to sprays releasing lubricants and numbing agents to cut down on vibrations of the tissues in the throat and nose.
There are nasal dilators that are inserted into the nasal passages to keep them open allowing for better airflow. There are snoring pillows that can not only detect when you snore but also record the sounds so you can listen later. There are several surgery procedures that can be used but they are not widely recommended and used only as a last resort when nothing else on the market has worked.
Many Products For Stop Snoring Aids
With so many different types of products, which snoring treatment is right for you? Well in most cases it is a matter of personal preference. If you chose to visit a sleep specialist or sleep clinic there may be a medical condition that is contributing to your snoring. If you are overweight excess fatty tissues in your throat and neck can contribute to snoring. You will want to talk to your doctor to see if she or he recommends or prescribes something for you that may help you.
It is estimated that 80-90% of people suffer from some kind of sleep disorder. This causes massive amounts of people to suffer from lack of sleep which hinders their daily routines and performance. If you snore or someone you know suffers from snoring and you know of something that may help let them in on the information. Be supportive and patient. If they are sleeping then they do not know how their snoring may bother you and others in the home. Do not give up hope.

Insomnia

Dimanche 27 janvier 2008

If a person has a problem getting a decent night s sleep or feels that he has a sleeping problem, it could be said that this person is suffering from insomnia. There are three types of insomnia. Transient is defined as sleeplessness that lasts one day to a few weeks. Intermittent is when one suffers occasional or on and off insomnia, and chronic is a constant, ongoing problem.Transient and intermittent insomnia are caused by stress, external noise, extreme temperatures, change of sleeping places, altered sleep timings and side effects of medicines. Chronic is not so easily pinned down to a single cause. It is mostly caused by a combination of diseases, psychological problems, life style patterns like smoking, alcohol, and caffeine, drugs and work schedules. People over sixty, pregnant women and women during menopause are more prone to suffer from this ailment.A person suffering from insomnia feels tired with lowered energy level, flares up for nothing and can hardly concentrate on anything seriously. Discussion with the patient and his family about sleep patterns can identify insomnia, but finding the root cause is a very complex exercise involving all causation factors.Transient and intermittent insomnia does not require serious treatment other than removing the cause and a short acting sleeping pill. Chronic insomnia is often a very complicated problem. Underlying physical and mental disorders need to be treated and necessary life style modification effected. Mild aerobics exercise would be of great help. But above all, calming the mind and relaxing the body through various relaxation techniques is of enormous help. A patient should use sleeping pills only under a physician s supervision for a short period of time to avoid dependency. Peripheral Neuropathy

Dimanche 27 janvier 2008

Peripheral neuropathy refers to damage to the peripheral nervous system, which carries all messages to the brain. Peripheral nerves, when damaged, cannot carry, or carry distorted messages, to the brain from the extremities.Symptoms may include numbness, itching, burning, paralysis, not sweating normally, impaired sexual function, blood pressure fluctuation and even organ failure. Each peripheral nerve has a significant function assigned to it and the problem crops up when these nerves are damaged.Research shows that there are more than 100 types of peripheral neuropathies. Motor nerves control the muscular actions like walking and talking. Sensory nerves help recognize a gentle touch or a cut, and autonomic nerves control involuntary actions like breathing, heart beat and food digestion. Neuropathy may affect all three classifications, but in most cases it affects only one or two. Doctors make use of terms such as predominantly motor neuropathy or predominantly sensory neuropathy to express the patient s state. Symptoms vary depending on the type of nerve that is damaged. If it s a motor nerve, weak muscles or painful cramps could result. If a sensory nerve is damaged, a patient may not able to experience touch, feel as if they are wearing a glove though they are not, be unable to recognize small shapes by touching, or become unable to stand when they have their eyes closed. If the damaged nerve is an autonomic nerve, then it can be life-threatening. Breathing could become difficult, heartbeat irregular; fainting when moving from sitting to standing could result. Gastrointestinal symptoms can be an adjunct to autonomic neuropathy, when nerves controlling intestinal muscles are damaged. It could result in constipation, diarrhea, or trouble eating and swallowing. Causes for peripheral neuropathy include injury (e.g., Automobile accident), systemic diseases (e.g., Diabetes), viral or bacterial infections, and genetic conditions. Diagnosing peripheral neuropathy is difficult as the symptoms are capricious. The doctor must do a thorough physical examination, take the patient s history, and note the work environment, general activities etc. Treatments for peripheral neuropathy are in place but there is still no treatment for inherited neuropathy. In general, maintaining healthy habits like avoiding alcohol and quitting smoking is most important as these hamper the blood vessels that provide nutrients. Weight management, exercise, balanced diet, and eliminating vitamin deficiencies help prevent peripheral neuropathy.Alcoholic Neuropathy provides detailed information on neuropathic pain, alcoholic neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, neuropathy medication and more. Alcoholic Neuropathy is affiliated with Traumatic Brain Injury.

Arthritis & Joint Pain

Mardi 22 janvier 2008

Today almost every other person you talk too is living with daily joint pain. It does not matter what the age or physical shape of the person, daily pain seems to be a common complaint. Living with chronic pain can wear a person down, affecting energy levels, mood and overall stamina. The cause can vary however Arthritis is typically the root problem. Arthritis comes in more than 100 forms and one does not need to be of old age to have this debilitating disease. The cost of arthritis around the world is approx $400 billion in medical expenses and lost productivity.
Let s face it preventative health care is boring and as a result most individuals do not provide their body with nutritional supplements until they are sick or in pain. We do not eat properly to get the nutrition required and even if we attempt to do so there is very little in nutrients remaining once we cook our food at high temperatures. Therefore it is very important to begin to nourish our joints at a young age to prevent Arthritis however very often this is not done until we can no longer stand the pain.
The fight against Arthritis is to begin early in life with good nutrition. Good nutrition also means the taking of daily nutritional supplements along with a balanced diet. A person should begin to supplement the diet as early as 30 years of age to fend off Arthritis symptoms later in life. As we get older our joints begin to lose lubrication, this can also happen earlier due to an injury or excessive stress on the joints as a result of sporting activity or repetitive motion. Once the joint begins to lose moisture we experience the loss of flexibility, and an increase in inflammation which results in stiffness and pain. We need to preserve the cartilage and fluid in all of our joints to maintain flexibility and live an active life.
Once symptoms begin the first thing most people resort to is pain medication however this just masks the underlying problem and does not provide nourishment to improve lubrication to the affected area. Natural supplements Celadrin, MSM, Glucosamine, and Chondroitin have been on the market for years and commonly taken to alleviate arthritic symptoms. Taken in pill form these supplements may take up to several months before individuals begin to feel better therefore most people give up before they even begin to see results. Pills are required to be broken down by the digestive system before the necessary ingredients can be absorbed by the bloodstream and intestinal track and it may take that long to get enough of these ingredients into the body to be helpful. Gel-nutrition is a new natural alternative which takes these same proven ingredients and keeps them in a pre-hydrated state so that the body can quickly absorb them into the bloodstream for quick relief of pain and they begins to nourish the body and its joints with-in one hour after ingestion. Positive results have been seen with-in 4 to 72 hours depending on the individual. Now just imagine all 4 natural supplements combined into one powerful gel formula, no more need to take a hand full of pills each day.
Just exactly what are these ingredients and what do they do?
Celadrin or cetyl myristoleate is a blend of cetylated fatty acids that provides lubrication to the joints. Blended, invented and patented by chemist Harry Diehl PhD cetyl myristoleate was found to circulate in the blood of mice and made them immune to arthritis. Celadrin may also act as an anti-inflammatory agent.
MSM or methylsulfonylmethane is a naturally occurring, organic, sulfur compound. Taken as a nutritional dietary source of sulfur, which is the 4th most abundant element in the human body, MSM is necessary for making and repairing cartilage. MSM has been shown to relieve pain as a result of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
Glucosamine is a small carbohydrate molecule which is naturally synthesized (produced) in the body. This synthesis declines with aging therefore the need to supplement. Glucosamine supports cartilage maintenance and strength therefore reducing and relieving joint pain.
Chondroitin or chondroitin sulfate is naturally synthesized in the body and supports strong cartilage. Chondroitin protects existing cartilage by reducing water loss and by slowing the breakdown of the cartilage. Glucosamine and Chondroitin work together to protect the cartilage from wear and tear and help it maintain its strength.
As you can see each ingredient has its own job to do and how all 4 are necessary to maintaining healthy joints and reducing pain. To learn more about gel-nutrition visit www.agelhealthandwellness.com.
My Story The straw that broke the camels back was the day that I broke into tears at work over a situation that I found to be frustrating. Never in my 27 year career had I lost emotional control in my work environment. Growing up in a stiff British home very seldom did I ever lose emotional control over anything? The problem .chronic pain. After years of working on a computer that was not properly set up for my work station I had developed osteo-degenerative arthritis in my neck. I lived every day with a stiff neck, to the point that I had difficulty driving a vehicle and I was having weekly migraines. I was eating over the counter pain pills like they were candy and my doctor eventually put me on a pain medication called Vioxx. This drug was pulled off the shelves after I had taken it for 18 months and could no longer be prescribed. I spent over 2 years and thousands of dollars trying to get rid of the pain and put some mobility back into my neck. I worked with a message therapist, physio therapist and a chiropractor on a weekly basis to get the situation under control. Sound familiar to any of you. Well the pain became manageable however it never fully went away until I began to take a gel-nutrition formula which contained all of the above noted ingredients. The pain medication just masked the problem and all the therapy in the world was not going to put lubrication back into my joints, calm down the inflammation and strengthen the cartilage between my vertebrae. Now having said that, the therapy was also necessary to ease the muscle tightness which had happened around the affected area.
Like many I had tried MSM and Glucosamine in pill form however became impatient due to the slow results. People who are living with chronic pain want quick results even thought I fully realized this problem took years to create and would not be fixed over night. Today I am happy to say that I am pain free, even my ankles, which suffered many years of abuse from jogging and sport activity. My pain and stiffness eased after giving my body the proper nutrition for only 1 week. My symptoms were gone after 2 weeks.
Do your body a favor, educate yourself on gel-nutrition and begin to enjoy life.
Celadrin is a Trademark
